Compressors are probably the most used audio processors, helping to control the dynamic range of your audio signal. Let's dive into FAC Medusa, a versatile and characterful compressor.
FAC Medusa combines various dynamic processors into a unified and user-friendly tool. The signal follows these essential stages:
- Pre-amp with tone control and saturation circuit: The input signal splits into low, mid, and high frequency bands, each with adjustable crossover points to control levels and saturation for a natural or characterful effect.
- Compression: Beyond typical controls, FAC Medusa offers two compression types: downward compression reduces signal levels above the threshold while upward compression boosts levels below the threshold. Compression can affect the sum of frequency bands or each individual band from stage 1.
- Parallel compression and Brickwall limiter: An optional master Brickwall limiter maintains control over the output from stage 2, potentially mixed with the original signal. The limiter includes threshold and release time adjustments.
